Garrett nelson

Garrett Nelson founded G78 Music in April 2020. The Logo was influenced by Garrett’s father, who passed away from colon cancer on April 14th of 2020. The letter “G” stands for his name, and “78” for the year of his Porsche 911 that he and his father built through Garrett’s high school career. In 2025, Garrett rebranded to Yokwe Music. His father spent a part of his life on an island in the Marshal Islands, which became a highlight he always looked back on. The word “Yokwe” translates from Marshallese to “hello,” goodbye”, and “I love you”. A memento and symbol, Garrett holds close to his heart as he pursues a music career that his father always supported.

Born in 2003 and adopted shortly after, Garrett grew up in Cody, Wyoming, graduating with a little over 100 students in his class. Garrett participated in every musical class offered at his school. He performed in all ensembles, going on to play for Wyoming All-State ensembles with saxophone as his instrument of choice.

Garrett went on to study at Montana State University, pursuing his bachelor’s in music technology with a focus on Film Scoring while studying under accomplished musicians such as Yamaha Performing Artist Wonki Lee and Composer Eric Funk.

Having graduated in December of 2025, he plans on continuing his education with intensive abroad scoring programs, having been a selected composer to attend the GEMS International Film Scoring Program in Valencia, Spain, and the International Screen Scoring Program in Italy. Following the programs, he plans on applying to his dream Screen Scoring Program at the University of Southern California, Thornton School of Music.
Garrett hopes to hear his music on the big screen one day.
